Temporary or Permanent Fix?

You probably don’t need a list of issues that need your attention.

If you’ve had a plumber in to discuss his solution to your bathroom leak you’ll understand.  The quick-fix may turn out to be much more costly in the long run…and may not work at all.

Different people have different thoughts on how to address or resolve an issue and that is perfectly acceptable. We have a right to express our thoughts and ideas. We don’t have any right to require anyone else to adopt our beliefs.

There is a trend today to shut down differing ideas. May I suggest that we spend perhaps half as much time listening to differing ideas as we do shutting those down who disagree with us? We just might find common areas of agreement.

There is also a trend to replace our long held system of government with something that has failed every time that it was adopted.  Our long held system of government provides for corrections and changes. The proposed system endorses one thought and one solution with disagreements met with harsh retribution.  You can vote yourselves into socialism; you cannot vote yourself out of socialism.

Most are aware of Ben Franklin’s famous reply when asked as he emerged from the convention, “Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?” “A Republic, if you can keep it.”

It is of utmost importance to hear and now understand that “Democracy” is not found in any Founding Document, and “Socialism” is not found in any founding document, much less “Socialist Democracy”!!

Franklin’s alleged description of Democracy is “two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for dinner.” Thomas Jefferson is alleged by some to have said, “Democracies are dangerous because a Democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” Because of that understanding the United States was formed as a Republic.

Socialism is government regulation and controls all aspects of our personal life and businesses. Combining Democracy and Socialism is doubling up on the evils of both. So-called “Democratic Socialism” would completely wipe away the Constitutional Republic which we were given. Individual Freedom with control over our own lives and property would be gone forever under Socialism.

The United States was formed as a Republic by design, with limits upon the government set forth in our Constitution, in order to substantially limit the government’s power and to protect our “natural individual rights.” Our rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness are “natural,” not government-allowed. We formed our government; it did not form us.

Individual Freedom is your right or power to act, speak, or think as you want without hindrance or restraint in your “life” and complete “liberty” to “pursue your own happiness.”

Socialism or “Democratic Socialism” is the exact opposite of a Constitutional Republic. Your life, lived with the liberty to pursue your happiness unhindered and unrestrained, is not allowed in a Socialist government. The movement to destroy our Constitutional Republic and replace it with a Socialist government is led by those people who identify themselves as Democratic Socialists, Communists, Progressives, Liberals, and others. The most common in the United States presently are “Democratic Socialists” and “Progressives.” No matter what the label, make no mistake; all are Socialist or Communist in some form and will eventually lead to complete control of the way we are allowed to live. (1)

Going back to the plumber and the bathroom, right now the water is running full blast and the drain is not connected. The water is out of control and causing damage in its wake. The shut off value is stuck open.  The permanent fix requires new drain pipes and a working shut off value. The temporary fix might be to put extra towels on the floor.

Another problem under socialism is that fear, anxiety, and depression become the normal way of life for the masses.

Let’s just say NO to socialism and YES to our Constitutional Republic.

Not The Time To Put A Lid On It

It has been on a constant loop: “If you see something, say something”. I don’t remember hearing there was any fine print or exceptions to that “rule”. We can see there clearly are.

With all the talk of what is essential; one item was left off the written list of the essential and non-essential items, and that is free speech.

In practice the drumbeat was “Thou Shall Not Contradict The Official Pronouncement”. No matter what your station in life, should you wander off the official script and have a different point of view, the hordes of Huns will be released to destroy you, your family, your employment or business and employees. Even if you should recant your ‘error’ of having a different point of view and grovel coast to coast, you will be destroyed, not welcomed back, and canceled. This does not fit any definition of free speech that I have seen.

Freedom of speech has become vital because, without freedom of speech, some people won’t be able to communicate effectively and even say a word when things are going wrong.  Freedom of speech is essential because it can change the narrative of how people feel when they express themselves in public.

Freedom of speech is not a new concept. Freedom of speech can be found between the early 5th and 6th century. It was recognized by the Roman Republic which added freedom of speech and freedom of religion also. The fact that freedom of speech was essential at that time should tell you that freedom of speech is vital and very important even in these modern times.

Freedom of speech remain essential to us and our society, although the first amendment was instituted in 1791, the ideas of human rights that lead to freedom of speech is on paper in ancient human right documents.

The Founding Fathers of our Constitutional Republic saw Freedom of Speech as so essential to maintaining our Republic that they included it within the First Amendment.

When Freedom of Speech is fully operative:

  • It enables the dispersion of excellent and accurate information.
  • It enables media to present both sides of an issue accurately, eliminating Fake News.
  • People will get the impact of new ideas.
  • Freedom of speech is essential and ensures meaningful communication
  • If you can’t communicate you don’t have the liberty to express yourself freely.

Clarity of information depends on the extent to which freedom of expression of thought and freedom of speech is open in all the changes and processes taking place in society. It helps the community to stay in harmony, protects the business, and promotes foreign exchange. Free Speech gives individuals peace in running daily activities with people.

Without Free Speech we would live in a Socialist or Communist society where dissidents are punished brutally, perhaps purged to re-education or death camps. Socialists and Communists quickly silence, canceled, opposition.

Much of today’s media in cooperation of Big Tech parrots talking points of one point of view to which “Thou Shall Not Contradict”

Feel Like Genie?

Many feel a little battered right now and the Black and Blues are beginning to show.

I grew to understand that cheating does not pay. At times the cheaters appear to gain the upper hand and appear to have gotten away with their scam.

Bernie Madoff an American former market maker, investment advisor, financier and convicted fraudster who is currently serving a federal prison sentence for offenses related to a massive Ponzi scheme. He is the former non-executive chairman of the NASDAQ stock market, the confessed operator of the largest Ponzi scheme in world history, and the largest financial fraud in U.S. history. Prosecutors estimated the fraud to be worth $64.8 billion based on the amounts in the accounts of Madoff’s 4,800 clients as of November 30, 2008.

Madoff founded a penny stock brokerage in 1960 which eventually grew into Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities. He served as its chairman until his arrest on December 11, 2008. The firm was one of the top market maker businesses on Wall Street, which bypassed “specialist” firms by directly executing orders over the counter from retail brokers. (1)

Madoff thought he had it all, wealth, power, prestige, world recognition and status.  Madoff commanded, bought and sold companies and people to his own advantage for years. Madoff had a secret that he shared with few; the secret was he knew he cheated his way up the ladder. Madoff had to continue to cheat people because the moment he stopped cheating his world would come tumbling down like a house of cards.

On March 12, 2009, Madoff pleaded guilty to 11 federal felonies and admitted to turning his wealth management business into a massive Ponzi scheme. The Madoff investment scandal defrauded thousands of investors of billions of dollars. Madoff said that he began the Ponzi scheme in the early 1990s, but …. may have begun as far back as the 1970s.Those charged with recovering the missing money believe that the investment operation may never have been legitimate. The amount missing from client accounts was almost $65 billion, including fabricated gains. (1)

Madoff figuratively built his house on sand or quicksand by cheating. When the rain and floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it, from a multi-Billionaire to a broke federal prisoner. 

Perhaps Madoff could have expended the same or less energy on a legitimate investment business, done well, and then died a happy and free man. He would have been a great contributor to the economy instead of a drain.

Matthew 7:24-27 ESV

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. In my opinion, Madoff couldn’t understand others’ feelings. He often broke rules or make impulsive decisions without feeling guilty for the harm he caused, just your basic sociopath.

Madoff’s actions resulted in bankruptcies, foreclosures, ruined lives, depression, anxiety and suicides, including his own son. Madoff was a multi-car train wreck.

Then there is a father, probably another sociopath, who ruined his daughter’s and other people’s lives.

Genie was a girl born in California in 1957 who spent nearly all of the first 13 years of her life locked in her room.  Born to mentally unstable parents, at a very young age Genie was diagnosed as developmentally delayed and her father took that diagnosis and decided on his own treatment for Genie.

Genie spent the next 12 years of her life locked in her bedroom.  During the day, she was tied to a child’s potty chair in diapers; at night, she was bound in a sleeping bag and placed in an enclosed crib with a cover made of metal screening.  Her father beat her every time she vocalized, and he barked and growled at her like a dog in order to keep her quiet. 

He also rarely allowed his wife and son to leave the house or even to speak, and he expressly forbade them to speak to Genie.  By the age of 13, Genie was almost entirely mute, commanding a vocabulary of about 20 words and a few short phrases (nearly all negative), such as “stop it” and “no more”.

Genie was discovered at the age of 13, when her mother ran away from her husband and took her daughter with her. (2)

Would you hazard a guess as to the mental health and financial issues Genie’s father created and how many lives he ruined? Genie’s father certainly was a dictator, a despot with respect to his family. Genie’s father seized power in deed.

It is generally thought that dictators and despots seize power in third world countries by various means. Some are bloodless coups. Some countries are honest enough to announce an official candidate for you to vote.  Then there are some like Venezuela that went out of their way to rig the entire electoral process to install an official candidate who issues one edict after another without use of the legislative body.

Dictators and despots seize power and remain in power by controlling the message, the news, and the means of communication. They only permit the official narrative to be disseminated to the population. In addition to censorship they control population movement. They rule by fear. They want us all to be just as Genie before she escaped.

A true popularly elected leader does not need a fence around the capital city to keep those who gave him consent to govern out of the city.

The story does not end here.

Benedict Arnold Again

Benedict Arnold (21 December 1615 – 19 June 1678) was president and then governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is more famous for betraying Patriots of the American cause for Independence, a  Traitor who committed Treason.

Arnold won some important battles for American Independence before switching sides.

Arnold became one of the most infamous traitors in U.S. history after he switched sides and fought for the British. Debt and the resentment Arnold felt over not being promoted faster were motivating factors in his choice to become a turncoat. He concluded that his interests would be better served assisting the British than continuing to suffer for an American army he saw as ungrateful.

Petty persecution of the commander-in-chief by slighting and insulting his favorite officers was kept up until the last year of the war, and such men as Greene, Morgan, and Stark were almost driven from the service by it. On 19 Feb., 1777, congress appointed five new major-generals–Stirling, Mifflin, St. Clair, Stephen, and Lincoln–thus passing over Arnold, who was the senior brigadier. None of these officers had rendered services at all comparable to his, and, coming as it did so soon after his heroic conduct on Lake Champlain, this action of congress naturally incensed him. He behaved very well, however, and expressed his willingness to serve under the men lately his juniors, while at the same time he requested congress to restore him to his relative rank.  On May 2, 1777, the United States Continental Congress promoted General Arnold to Major General. (1)

Benedict Arnold’s Oath of Allegiance – In 1778, Benedict Arnold, like all military officers, [and those serving in public office today] swore allegiance to his country. In 1780 General Arnold betrayed his oath by conspiring to surrender West Point to the British. – From the War Department Collection of Revolutionary War Records National Archives. (1)

There are quite a few politicians who forgot how to be servant leaders. These politicians promised many things to get elected. They promised to represent and fight for the people who elected them. They instead served their own interests including increasing their own wealth even to the detriment of the people they are supposed to represent.

There is perhaps no greater insult to relationship than betrayal. Betrayal robs us of a sense of security as in when someone close to us has proven untrustworthy. We must work through the pain of the betrayal so that we might trust again, so that we might find the true foundation of our security.

Betrayal is one of the most painful human experiences. Discovering that someone we trusted has deeply hurt us pulls the reality rug from under us. (2)

A damaging aspect of betrayal is that our sense of reality is undermined. What felt like solid trust suddenly crumbles. Our innocence is shattered. We’re left wondering: What happened? How could this happen? Who is this person? (2).

The violation of our trust is at the root of betrayal. It makes sense, then, to try to identify where that feeling of trust comes from. According to Shuxia Yao and colleagues (2014), of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, trust involves oxytocin, a hormone manufactured by the brain’s hypothalamus that is involved in mother-infant bonding. However, oxytocin also acts more generally in social bonding, and some believe it is a key component in the psychological experience of trust. (3)

While we tend to think of trust as essential mainly to romantic relationships, Yao and her research team maintain, on the basis of previous research, that oxytocin is also involved in business or economic transactions. When you make a deal with someone, you want to know that the person you’re shaking hands with will come through on his or her end of the bargain. If not, there would be no point in making an agreement. In business, as in romance, you need to be sure that your partner will treat you fairly. We tend to presume that people will look out for their own best interests, but also that they, in turn, will respect ours. (3)

No matter how much the person apologizes, you can’t manage to tap into your inner reservoir of forgiveness. To ease your pain, you seek retribution, if not revenge. (3)

When anyone you entrusted with your future betrays you it is quite natural to seek retribution, if not revenge. I don’t condone violence; however I certainly understand the frustration of the patriots who were once again where betrayed by their elected officials. The betrayal legitimized perhaps the greatest fraud in history.  I would say this is going to get worse before it gets better.

Most people have overcome betrayal in our lives, just not to this scale. Perhaps those who betrayed us will retire to another country as Arnold did.

A Republic if you can keep it…

Eight days before we celebrated the 400th Anniversary of the foundation of freedom, the landing of the Pilgrims, and the structure our government, the Mayflower Compact, we suffered the worst attack upon our Constitutional Republic.

“The first civil act of the Pilgrims after their arrival in Cape Cod Harbor, was to draw up a compact or “combination,” as it is called by Bradford, which was signed by the male members of the company, and became the foundation on which the structure of our government has been built. Under date of Nov. 21st, Mourt’s Relation states that 

“this day, before we came to harbour, observing some not well affected to unity and concord, but gave some appearances of faction, it was thought good there should be an association and agreement, that we should combine together in one body, and to submit to such government and governor as we should, by common consent, agree to make and choose, and set our hands to this that follows, word for word.” (1)

The cancel culture wants to erase our history. Our history shows that freedom is in our DNA and the DNA of our nation. Freedom comes from God. We started out with the Bible as a text book in our schools. On June 25, 1962 in Engel v.Vitale, the US Supreme Court by an 8-1 vote banned God from our schools.  Our history shows us that even though evil plans of kings and rulers seem to be winning, the Divine hand of God works a counter plan. God is still in Control. The story of our God-given rights is the great missing link to restore our nation again!

The November 3, 2020 attacked upon our Constitutional Republic was planned for years by a group who attempted to install a Communist Chinese puppet government. The media accomplices hid much of the negative information about Beijing’s candidate before the election. When the negative information about the puppet got out over 35% of them said they would not have voted for the puppet had they known the negative information before the election.  The media has decreed the puppet to be the president-elect.

Longtime readers know I am a student of history. I have checked the U.S. Constitution again and can not find any provision therein for the media to degree who an office holder will be.  Please check for yourself (2).

The November 3rd attack can be summarizes as follows: A well funded group of people who enjoyed many decades of corrupt self dealing hated one person because he was elected president in 2016 to end their corrupt self dealing and return the control of the government to the people. The well funded group tried many, many, many avenues to somehow remove the president, even before he was sworn in.  The president exposed and removed portions of the corrupt self dealers every time he found them and could.

Their Nov 3rd attack was designed to simply manufacture, by several means, and post more votes for Beijing’s puppet than for the for the president. Often times votes earned by the president were awarded to Beijing’s puppet. The goal was to proclaim and install Beijing’s puppet as the 46th president. Their corrupt scheme has been brought to light and being unraveled.

The well funded group included parties in several foreign countries, some of whom seek our destruction, with the use of the internet.

There are a few paths to unwind the mess. The paths unwind the mess and restore trust in our elections again go through civil and criminal judicial processes; have the state legislatures pick the Electors to the Electoral College,  through the US Supreme Court, through the declaration of the elections being declared a national security issue in 2018, and or The Enforcement Act of 1871 codifying portions of the Fourteenth Amendment.

The full extent of the fear, pain, suffering, anxiety, deaths, and suicides caused by the well funded group may never be known.

Many people have already testified about what the well funded group has done. The Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Michigan legislatures have held public hearings to get to the bottom of the mess, correct the mess, and prevent it from happening again. This is not over.

Before you watch the three hearings below I offer my suggestions to prevent any possible reoccurrence of the well funded group’s attack. Years ago we used a simple punch card voting system.  After showing a proper picture ID we were given a ballot, a punch card. The punch card was inserted into the voting machine. The voter made a selection and used the stylus to punch a hole into the card. When the voter finished making selections, the card was removed and put into a secure box which tallied the total number of votes. The secure box was securely transported to location where the votes would be counted.

The box was unlocked and the votes were counted in the full view and presence of the candidate’s representative, a representative from each party, a monitor, and Board of Election, Town or City Clerk or their representative.

The one doing the counting, whether by loading the punch cards into the counting machine or by hand had two set of eyes right behind the counter, close enough to read everything. We always had the paper ballot to validate the count.

Absentee ballots had the signature on the voter registration matched with the one on mailed in envelope.

There was no opportunity for extra or manufactured vote to appear at any time.

Ballots were always secured and never left unattended.

The hearings below ran all day.

The survival of our Constitutional Republic hinges upon fixing this mess and restoring fair and secure elections.  Once our Constitutional Republic is restored healing is next.

Ben Franklin and the other Founding Fathers knew we would have tough days ahead and they gave us the tools to overcome them. We’ll come through this stronger. Let’s keep our Constitutional Republic.

Time To Heal

We have just come through one of the most divisive presidential election seasons I have seen.  There was possibly a more contentious election presidential election in 1864.

President Trump and President Lincoln had fallen into the same horrendous situation – becoming victims to the dramatic refusal of American Democrats to accept their Republican Presidents. (1) Both found a way to communicate directly with the people. Both found innovative ways to address current situations. Both served in the White House during very contentious and volatile times: Lincoln had the War Between the States; and Trump has the current riots, looting, and property destruction by well supplied organized groups. (2) 

While Trump has waged a war of words with the media and would undoubtedly like to silence his fiercest critics, Lincoln actually did. Faced with an armed Rebellion by eleven Southern states, he desperately needed to keep in the Union the four border states where slavery was legal [Maryland, Missouri, Kentucky and Delaware]. The first federal troops who marched through Baltimore on their way to Washington were attacked by rioters who supported Confederate independence. Lincoln reacted by taking bold steps including empowering military commanders to arrest and imprison civilians who were advocating the Rebel cause and suspending habeas corpus [the right to have a judge determine whether an arrest and detention is lawful]. The press was not exempt. (3)

It takes hard work by many people working together to make changes in our society, whether it be by election, protest or riots. It also takes people individually and together in groups to Defuse or not Feed Into the narrative

“A New York lawyer went duck hunting in the mountains of East Tennessee recently. He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer’s field on the other side of the fence. As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing.

“I shot this duck, and it fell in this field, and now I’m going in to retrieve it.”

“This is my property,” the old farmer replied. “And you are not coming over here.”

“I’m one of the best trial lawyers in New York,” said the lawyer. “And if you don’t let me get that duck, I’ll sue you and take everything you own.”

“Apparently, you don’t know how we do things in these parts of Tennessee,” said the farmer. “We settle disagreements like this with the Tennessee three-kick rule.”

“And just what is the Tennessee three-kick rule?”

“Well, first I kick you three times, and then you kick me three times, and so on, back and forth, until someone gives up.”

The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old-timer. He agreed to the local custom. The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the city slicker. His first kick planted the steel toe of his heavy work boot in the lawyer’s shin. The man fell to his knees. His second kick nearly put a hole in the man’s stomach. The old man then quickly delivered the third kick to the side of the attorney’s head. Slowly, the disoriented lawyer managed to get to his feet.

I certainly don’t condone violence to settle a dispute, but the above example shows how the farmer chose to end the conflict by giving up and walking away.” (4)

For years we have drifted apart from knowing our neighbors.  At one we knew our neighbors and their families, today many would not know them if they passed by their neighbor in the store.

The damage already done to our communities is not just what you see by driving by the burnt out buildings, boarded up stores, and empty lots where food stores and jobs once stood. 

We may not know for years how many heart attacks, still births, psychotic breaks, panic attacks, anxiety attacks, depressed people and suicides could have ether been prevented or help given had the riots not taken place.   

We must rebuild our neighborhoods and knit them more strongly together than they have been. The community will need to work hard together to repair the damage done. We will have to become Community Strong (5)

The fully gowned graduating class of engineers sat ready to hear from a class leader waiting for an encouraging send off. With his stoic Dad sitting in the front row my cousin opened with: Yesterday I could not spell engmaneer… today I are one.  My uncle led the approving applause.

Educating our children, our future, as we know it today is a far cry from where we started out in our country.  Reading was taught at the mother’s knee and continued in the barns, fields, or shops by the father’s side.

The private system of education in which our forefathers were educated included home, school, church, voluntary associations such as library companies and philosophical societies, circulating libraries, apprenticeships, and private study. It was a system supported primarily by those who bought the services of education, and by private benefactors. All was done without compulsion. Although there was a veneer of government involvement in some colonies, such as in Puritan Massachusetts, early American education was essentially based on the principle of voluntarism.[1]

Two hundred years in American history, from the mid-1600s to the mid-1800s, public schools as we know them to day were virtually non-existent, and the educational needs of America were met by the free market. In these two centuries, America produced several generations of highly skilled and literate men and women who laid the foundation for a nation dedicated to the principles of freedom and self-government.

The cornerstone of early American education was the belief that “children are a heritage from the Lord.”[2] Parents believed that it was their responsibility to not only teach them how to make a living, but also how to live. As our forefathers searched their Bibles, they found that the function of government was to protect life and property.[3] Education was not a responsibility of the civil government.

Home education was so common in America that most children knew how to read before they entered school. As Ralph Walker has pointed out, “Children were often taught to read at home before they were subjected to the rigors of school. In middle-class families, where the mother would be expected to be literate, this was considered part of her duties.[4]

For many, formal schooling was simply unnecessary. The fine education they received at home and on the farm held them in good stead for the rest of their lives, and was supplemented with Bible reading and almanacs like Franklin’s Poor Richard’s.

Philadelphia also had many fine evening schools. In 1767, there were at least sixteen evening schools, catering mostly to the needs of Philadelphia’s hard-working German population. For the most part, the curriculum of these schools was confined to the teaching of English and vocations.[5] There were also schools for women, blacks, and the poor. Anthony Benezet, a leader in colonial educational thought, pioneered in the education for women and Negroes. The provision of education for the poor was a favorite Quaker philanthropy. As one historian has pointed out, “the poor, both Quaker and non-Quaker, were allowed to attend without paying fees.”[6]

A college education is something that very few of our forefathers wanted or needed. As a matter of fact, most of them were unimpressed by degrees or a university accent. They judged men by their character and by their experience. Moreover, many of our founding ‘fathers, such as George Washington, Patrick Henry, and Ben Franklin, did quite well without a college education. Yet for those who so desired it, usually young men aspiring to enter the ministry, university training was available. Unlike England, where the government had given Cambridge and Oxford a monopoly on the granting of degrees,[7] there were nine colleges from which to choose.

Education is as important today as it has been since the settling of our nation. What a child learns in school at an early age shapes generations to come.

Before the left sought and succeeded in removing God from schools they had the goal of running the education system. With professors and teachers indoctrinating and pushing anti-American socialism and communism the left could take over American. Their plan requires government run public schools as the only option where they control the message. To be successful they must shut down private and charter schools and all homeschooling by any means possible.

The China virus lockdowns have caused a variety of harms according to reports and studies. Hunger, unemployment, Fear, Anxiety, Depression, Domestic Violence, Child Abuse, Suicide, and Homicides have skyrocketed since the China virus lockdowns began.  Indeed Homicide rates have exploded by double digits and experts blame school and church closings alongside the anti-police movement, reports the Wall Street Journal. (8)

It is time to support Homeschooling, Private and Charter schools and leave the socialist and communist indoctrination prevalent in public schools behind.

The American Mind

This month we celebrate victory over a hard fought battle against the best military of its time to win independence in order that we may have Life and Liberty, and pursue Happiness.

According to Jefferson: The “the object of the Declaration of Independence,” he wrote, was “not to find out new principles, or new arguments, never before thought of, not merely to say things which had never been said before; but to place before mankind the common sense of the subject, in terms so plain and firm as to command their assent, and to justify ourselves in the independent stand we are compelled to take. Neither aiming at originality of principle or sentiment, nor yet copied from any particular and previous writing, it was intended to be an expression of the American mind.”  

Jefferson restated these noble sentiments in the Declaration of Independence, simplifying the prose: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” (1)

Today’s battles include the tyranny of those who are attacking the First Amendment especially Free Speech and the Freedom of Religion. The Second Amendment is also in the attacker’s sights.

To put it mildly, there are some who have strayed from the founding principles of respecting “certain unalienable Rights… [such as] Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” for all.  A certain combination of evil groups have banded together to try to turn our country into a third world nation.

First, there was the China virus attack which caused hurt, pain, and death from cabin fever, domestic violence, fear, anxiety, suicides and the catastrophic illness.

Then there is the invented word which has caused fear, pain, violence, and destruction of property since 1927. The word was invented in 1927 to browbeat dissenters of the communist ideology by Leon Trotsky and is still used today to shut down all nonconformists and businesses; the word is “racist” The destruction caused by and the misuse of the word “racist” is beyond measure and has become increasing vicious.

Since we can identify the perpetrators of this evil, it is incumbent upon us to stand up to these bullies and prosecute them for their appropriate crimes.

Bad apples can be found in many groups and organizations and they must be held accountable and if appropriate prosecuted as well.

Since we are a nation of laws, law and order must be reestablished in rogue areas.

And since we are a nation of laws, due process needs to be afforded to all, by all, without politically motivated knee jerk firings.

A close examination of the tactics of those trying to turn this country into a third world nation will reveal that they are using the communist playbook.

Fortunately we have some leaders, including the White House, who are leading the battle against the evil doers.

Together we will get back to the ‘American Mind’ that Thomas Jefferson wrote about, as we stand together against the bullies.

We know that good triumphs over evil. God is in charge. Let’s follow His lead.

Test Failure

We sure did study for this test and its failure is a welcomed result, now to get out of the twilight zone.

The thirty day free trial of socialism was extended, and for some the free trial was extended even longer. There has been a push to destroy our Republic and install Socialism. During the lockdowns we experienced 24/7 home confinement with restrictions on pretty much everything outside of the home.

The gifts of Socialism gave us more: untreated heart attacks resulting in more deaths; deaths by suicide; prohibited cancer treatments, resulting in more deaths; untreated mental health issues; increased incidents of domestic violence; increased anxiety;drug abuse; and denial of regularly available health care. All this reminds me of the ‘death panels’ often discussed in government-run health care where a bureaucrat behind a desk with a calculator decides whether or not a doctor can treat us.

The gifts of  Socialism also gave us high unemployment with all its devastating affects such as the inability to buy food, pay the rent or mortgages, just to name a few.

Some would argue, and some schools teach, that we have a democracy which is not true. In a democracy the rights of a minority opinion can be denied by a simple vote.

Marvin Simkin said: “Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch. Freedom comes from the recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99 percent vote.”

True democracy is the tyranny of the majority. True democracy is mob rule. Thankfully, we do not live in a democracy. We live in a republic. Article IV Section 4, of the Constitution: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of government …”

In a pure democracy, Madison argued, there is no check on the majority to protect the weaker party or individuals and therefore such democracies “have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention,” where rights of personal security and property are always in jeopardy.

In both a republic and a democracy, citizens are empowered to participate in a representational political system. They elect people to represent and protect their interests in how the government functions.

Capitalism is part of democracies (not communist or socialist countries). The community as a whole does not own all of the property and wealth in a democracy.

Socialism is a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Socialism theorizes that a collective cooperation of citizens will make all governmental institutions public. For example, no one will receive a healthcare bill when going to the doctor because they, and everyone else, have paid a hefty amount in government taxes. That’s where the collective cooperation comes in.

What is communism?

Communism, on the other hand, is a branch of Socialism. It’s similar in that it’s still founded on the idea of collective cooperation, but differs in that communists believe that cooperation should be run by a totalitarian government made up of one and only one government.

Marxist theory is the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.

Socialism and its relatives of Communism and Marxism are big government with big spending and the big taxes to go with it.  Socialism and its relatives of Communism and Marxism control most aspects of our lives.

If you are happy with the gifts of the Socialism: untreated heart attacks resulting in more deaths; deaths by suicide; prohibited cancer treatments, resulting in more deaths; untreated mental health issues; increased incidents of domestic violence; increased anxiety; drug abuse; and denial of regularly available health care, ‘death panels’, government run health care where a bureaucrat behind a desk with a calculator decides whether or not a doctor can treat you; and  with high unemployment with all its devastating affects such as the inability to buy food, pay the rent or mortgages, just to name a few, then perhaps moving to Venezuela would be a panacea for you.

I on the other hand prefer the Republic and its Freedoms. I think I’ll side with the approximate 94 percent of American voters who say they want an economic nationalist overhaul of the United States’ economy in the wake of the Chinese coronavirus crisis (2)

As we emerge from the failed test of Socialism we have a chance to correct mistakes which brought us to that failed test. Let’s heed the lessons and Make America Great Again.

Standing Tall Through It All

For five years, from hospital to nursing home and back a few times, he was a model and inspiration to all those who ever thought of giving up. In high school he was known as ‘Smiley Jackson’. Even through it all he stood tall without a complaint. I had the privilege of speaking with him about the same time most mornings with no subjects off the table.

At one nursing home during the 2016 election, whether by walking, wheelchair, or by walker, he made sure that he looked in on every patient, even if it was just a wave or smile. I asked if him if he was running for mayor and he replied “Yes.”  After the election some nurses even called him Mayor.

Matthew was known for his gentle and kind spirit. His smile was infectious. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and followed all the Boston sports teams.

Playing Santa for the kids was his favorite Christmas honor. Actually Matthew loved anything Christmas.

Matthew was a devout Christian and an active member in the Brockton Greek Orthodox Church.

Mathew was a longtime, and well respected, employee of the Heights Crossing Assisted Living home in Brockton.

Matthew suffered a severe brain injury in 2015 and throughout his difficult rehabilitation he fully cooperated and never complained and achieved remarkable improvement.

Unfortunately the Coronavirus was a challenge he could not win. His journey in this life was much shorter than that for which we had hoped. At 61 he went to be with Jesus April 10, 2020.

Throughout these recent difficult medical times Matthew maintained his positive, friendly and gentle disposition.

“What started as a small group of families gathered around a kitchen table in 1979 (NAMI) has blossomed into the nation’s leading voice on mental health. Today, we are an association of more than 500 local affiliates who work in your community to raise awareness and provide support and education that was not previously available to those in need.”  https://www.nami.org/About-NAMI.

One kitchen table in Massachusetts that grew to more than 500 local affiliates was my mother’s with three other women. The impetus and inspiration for the kitchen table meetings was her son, my, brother, Matthew.

The usual onset for a mental illness for boys is in the late teens to early twenties. Matthew started showing signs in high school by hearing voices and writing about it. In the 1970s there was no internet, no organizations, and no support groups.

A few mothers started meeting to gather information which would help the mentally ill and their families cope.  I joined in the search; soon the meeting grew too large to meet in the house.

Another goal of the mostly mothers group was to educate the public, media, and lawmakers about mental illness and end the stigma associated with it. The original name chosen was AMI, Alliance for the Mentally Ill.

Through it all he stood tall. I told Matthew more than once that he was a great example for anyone to persevere, no matter how bad things seemed to be and his reply was always “Thank you”.

Matthew enjoyed a lot of successes at the “Club House” in Brockton, BAMSI http://www.bamsi.org . While I was the President of NAMI Greater Framingham, our local clubhouse in Marlborough called “Employment Options” www.employmentoptions.org was a shining example of how a clubhouse should be operated.

Another program which has been duplicated and worthy of review is the “Jail Diversion Program” program run by “The Advocates” https://www.advocates.org

Matthew never made it to Phoenix, however his spirit to stand tall through it all did.

Now its time for Matthew to continue to be an example for others to stand tall through it all, be the impetus and inspiration for a Club House in Phoenix, to be called “Matt’s Place”.

I won’t hear his morning greetings again. I will repeat his often said closing: “Go Red Sox!”
