Independence Won, Can You Keep It?

It is a short work week, or a long weekend, or the most festive American holiday with cookouts, parades, parties and fireworks more than other patriotic holidays such Memorial Day or Veterans Day. Most people forget that when the 56 members of the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776, they were in fact signing their death warrants. You see Freedom is not free, it comes at a high cost.

Great Britain was the most powerful nation on earth, and at the same time, the thirteen American colonies were poor and disunited. The British Crown deemed the issuance of a declaration of independence as an act of treason, which meant that all signatories would be punished by death. This is very much like a David v Goliath story – and David won again.

“Those who won our independence believed that liberty was the secret of happiness, and courage was the secret of liberty.” ~Louis D. Brandeis

“The American Revolution was a beginning, not a consummation.” ~Woodrow Wilson

“In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved. ” ~Franklin D. Roosevelt

“Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it”. ~Thomas Paine

“Where liberty dwells, there is my country”. ~Benjamin Franklin

“We need an America with the wisdom of experience. But we must not let America grow old in spirit”. ~Hubert H. Humphrey

“Freedom is the oxygen of the soul”. ~Moshe Dayan

“Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die”. ~Dwight D. Eisenhower

“May the sun in his course visit no land more free, more happy, more lovely, than this our own country!” ~Daniel Webster

“Freedom is never free”. ~Author unknown.  Have you ever wondered why you never received a bill for your Freedom? The reason is the price of Freedom has been paid on many battle fields here and abroad.

My patriotic heart beats red, white, and blue. ~Author unknown

What does Freedom look like?

To the oppressed it is the unshackling from the oppressor.

To the prisoner it is the ability to choose when he can get up, eat, sleep and decide where he can go.

To those suffering with mental illness it is a time when he or she will no longer be subject to the heaviness and dark shadows of the illness.

To the Borrower who is a slave to the lender it is have all his debts paid in full.

To the child it is a time when he’ll be free from his parents rules….until he discovers all the responsibilities of having and maintaining his own home.

Liberty is believed to be the root cause of freedom.

Bill of Rights guarantees our God given Unalienable Rights. The government did not give us these rights and they can not take them away.  The restrictions are upon the government instituted by We the People. I realize many in government today believe that We the People are servants of theirs when in fact the opposite is true.

Unfortunately many of the Freedoms we won and are guaranteed have been usurped by a judiciary who decided it should make laws instead of applying it to the set of facts. Then there are those who for some reason have decided they must destroy this great country of our, some are elected officials who have chosen to violate their oath of office.

It is time for the no longer silent majority to speak up and stand up at every opportunity to those who pervert the Constitution and the laws made in pursuance thereof.

Freedom is not free and must be defended to truly enjoy it.

A New Day, A New Dawn, A New Season, A New Beginning

November 7, 2014

Beautiful Rainbow
November 5, 2014 By Rev Paul N. Papas II

An overnight success is never overnight. We are Blessed to live in a great country founded on great principles, one being Forgiveness Follows Failure.

Fall is our reminder that summer doesn’t last forever. Seasons come and go. Nothing in life stays the same—children grow up and get married, once-agile bodies begin to creak and pop, and trees display their boldest colors before shedding their bountiful foliage. And while most of us welcome the relief from searing-hot days, we can sense the passing of time with the turning of yellow, orange, and red leaves—the signal that today is a mere moment. Bare branches and gray landscapes are around the corner, heralding that opportunities in life are also fleeting. Some even disappear forever.

Every two years in the Fall we hold elections where the people exercise their voice and deliver their report card to their representatives.

Yesterday our country exercised a Right secured by our Founding Fathers to peaceably change the direction of our country was going; by changing their representatives to more accurately reflect their values. The people decided that the season was over for one group and chose another group to serve them. We as a country have a new beginning full of hope.

Sometimes people in leadership positions, whether it be in public life, private business, or in the church, develop the concept that the people they serve are their servants creating tension that can lead to no good. Our Founding Fathers provided a peaceable way to relieve that tension that can lead to no good.

Elections prove our country is a success, it also proves an overnight success is never overnight as there are many sleep deprived nights involved in an election.

When our bodies are working properly our built it mechanism repairs and refreshes itself much the same way the trees behave in four seasons.

Sometimes a portion of our body reacts to situations that may not always be good. Let’s look at Marine Sergeant Andrew Tahmooressi who spent 412 days in a Mexican prison for making a wrong turn into Mexico with three legal weapons. In my personal opinion he should have been allowed to return to the USA the same or next day when it was discovered he simply made a wrong turn. Interestingly there are new signs in place to prevent a reoccurrence by someone else.

While deployed in Afghanistan Sgt Tahmooressi was injured causing seen and unseen injuries. His unseen injuries include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Ultimately, it was his PTSD that the Mexican Judge used as his reason to order Sgt Tahmooressi’s release. Sgt Tahmooressi suffered many abuses and torture while held in the Mexican prison. The abuse and torture exacerbated his PTSD. Fortunately Sgt Tahmooressi’s season of being abused and tortured in a Mexican prison came to an end. He is home where he can be treated for his PTSD, in a new season of his life.

Most sufferers of PTSD do not make international headlines.

There are two good things about PTSD to take away from Sgt Tahmooressi’s example is that not all suffers of PTSD end up on Wanted Posters; and there is real effective help for suffers of PTSD.

No matter how bad things to seem, we always have a lot for which we are grateful. One thing we can all be grateful for is Sgt Tahmooressi and the many fine soldiers, sailors, and airmen who protect our Freedoms, such as voting in elections.

You can help everyone you meet with your smile and grateful attitude.

Time For Jefferson Correction

‘Anarchy could threaten the 2016 vote’, is a recent headline. Our Founders gave us a Republic guaranteeing our God given Rights. See my recent article

Would you leave your doors and windows unlocked, or cash on the table, or your Credit Card with your pin number on the kitchen table, or go on vacation and expect all of that to be there when you returned? You might have been able to do that six decades ago and find everything where you left it, but not today.

In about a month this Country will choose between two main groups.

One Group wants to further escalate their centralization governing agenda to include:

– All your doors and windows unlocked, cash on the table, Credit Card with your pin number left on the kitchen table as you leave the house;

– The home you paid for is no longer yours, as your Right to owning private property has been taken away;

– Your Saturday yard work can’t be done as the local authorities did not give you the required permit;

– You can no longer decide what is best for your family, because the children you brought in this world belong to the state;

– The borders are erased between town, cities, and states with all decisions emanating from one central government; and

– The Fruits of your years of labor are taken from you and given to the many murders, rapists, and terrorists who just waltzed into our Country through the porous unprotected borders.

The Other Group has its roots in places such as Lexington, Concord, and the Old North Church wants us to return us to our Roots:

– The People were the Employer of those they elected to represent them;

– People and Leaders took personal responsibility and did not blame their failures on others;

– Locks on doors, which are only meant to keep honest people honest, were not always used;

– Neighbors knew each other, helped, and protected each other and their families;

– Each town, city, and state decided locally how to address their own issues;

– The Federal Government was responsible for keeping our borders secure and dealing with foreign Nations as their prime responsibility. The Federal Budget was minuscule compared to today’s Federal Budget.

Thomas Jefferson said that when the government goes astray, it is up to the people to make the correction. Too many of today’s elected and appointed officials have the frightening notion that they are the masters and we are their slaves.

Dr Ben Carson recently said that with Ebola unchecked and the heavy burden of those flooding across our unsecure borders reaping the many benefits would overwhelm and collapse our system and could result in anarchy. He said “…you have to recognize that we have a rapidly increasing national debt, a very unstable financial foundation and you have all these things going on like the ISIS crisis that could very rapidly change things that are going on in our nation.” He further explained that anarchy would most likely result in Martial Law and a cancelation of elections leaving the current president in office until some future date.

The One Group who wants centralization would increase their various methods of controlling the people including the weaponization of the mental health facilities and drugs and the cessation of the First Amendment. See my previous articles

Our Nation is at a critical time in its history. Will it survive or will it die and become another great nation that passed into the annals of history? Are you ready to try to explain to your grandchildren what Liberty once was or will you experience it with them?

You decide….then VOTE.

Vote for the One Group to get this….

WILL Traditional Marriage Become A Mental Disorder?

July 5, 2013

By Rev. Paul N. Papas II
1 July 13

This is the week we celebrate our Independence from tyrannical rule.

Unless you’ve been on an island without any access to news or current events, you’ve noticed we have several wars going on…..right here, in this country. We have a War on Coal; War on Jobs; War on Parents Rights; War on Terror (maybe); War on taxpayers by the IRS; War on Children; War on our Privacy; War on the Constitution; War on the Press; War on Sugar; War on Christians; War on Big Gulps; War on French Fries; War on the First, Second, and Fourth Amendments; and a War on Traditional Marriage, just to name a few. If they can’t legislate it, they’ll bury it in regulations.

According to the powers that be, if you don’t agree them, they’ll try to silence you….the powers that be have used public humiliation and ridicule as tools of silencing you. They have attempted to have people declared to have a medical condition of a mental illness or as they say a mental disorder in order to silence people. They will try to isolate their opponents to try to make them irrelevant. Some have the belief that if they present the lie often enough and loud enough, then it becomes the truth. The same people don’t believe in absolutes. Darkness can not exist in the light.

The Supreme Court recently decided to let each state establish its own definition of marriage in the California Prop 8 matter. No matter how many times, or how loud some people shout, the Biblical definition of marriage will not change. It is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The Biblical definition of marriage is one man and one woman united as one.

Dissenting from the Supreme Court’s opinion on the Defense of Marriage Act, Justice Antonin Scalia – as expected – held nothing back:

In the majority’s telling, this story is black-and-white: Hate your neighbor or come along with us. The truth is more complicated. It is hard to admit that one’s political opponents are not monsters, especially in a struggle like this one, and the challenge in the end proves more than today’s Court can handle. Too bad. A reminder that disagreement over something so fundamental as marriage can still be politically legitimate, would have been a fit task for what in earlier times was called the judicial temperament. We might have covered ourselves with honor today by promising all sides of this debate that it was theirs to settle and that we would respect their resolution. We might have let the People decide, but that, the majority will not do.

Some will rejoice in today’s decision and some will despair at it. That is the nature of a controversy that matters so much to so many. But the Court has cheated both sides by robbing the winners of an honest victory, and robbing the losers of the peace that comes from a fair defeat. We owed both of them better. I dissent.

Considering the recent changes in the DSM and the current increased use of the medical condition of a mental illness as a weapon against their opposition, will Traditional Marriage soon be considered a mental disorder? Only time will tell. No matter how many times, or how loud some people shout, the Biblical definition of marriage will not change. It is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The Biblical definition of marriage is still one man and one woman united as one.

Whether or not America has a future worth having, doesn’t depend on what happens in Washington, D.C., or on what happens in the Supreme Court, or in the Congress. It depends on what happens with you, and people just like you; your family, and families just like yours; and your church, and churches just like yours with godly pastors after God’s heart and church members thirsting for God’s Word. Our future is in His hands (Psalm 121:1-2).

Independence Day is a wonderful day to reflect on the precious freedoms we enjoy in this great country. It is a day to give thanks to our Almighty God whose hand has surely been upon this nation. And it is day to commit anew our resolve to pray for spiritual revival to sweep across our nation. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission

As we celebrate the winning of our Freedom from tyrannical rule, we are reminded that Freedom comes with a price. To remain free takes constant vigilance. To remain free requires us to reject any form of tyrannical rule, wherever it might come from. Our Founding Fathers ensured that we have the Right to disagree. Some today want that Right only allowed to those who agree with them….or they’ll drone you?

Enjoy your Freedom. Remember the cost it took to get it and it takes to keep it.

MEMORIAL DAY 2012 – Freedom is Not Free

MEMORIAL DAY 2012 – Freedom is Not Free

Having served as a volunteer VA Chaplain and a Veteran I found this AP story about how US troops in Kabul marked Memorial Day by reading a fallen Marine’s letter stirring and had to add my two cents.

U.S. Marine Sgt. William Stacey was killed earlier this year by a homemade bomb in southern Afghanistan, a tragedy for which he prepared by writing a letter to his family explaining why he was fighting that was to be read in the event of his death.

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John Allen, read the 23-year-old’s letter during a Memorial Day service Monday in Kabul for all the troops who have died in the country since the war started in 2001.

“Today we remember his life and his words, for they speak resoundingly and timelessly for our fallen brothers and sisters in arms,” said Allen, who also leads the NATO coalition in Afghanistan.

Stacey was on his fourth deployment to Afghanistan when he was killed on Jan. 31 in Helmand province. The young Marine from Redding, Calif., told his family that he was motivated to fight in Afghanistan to protect the country’s children and provide them the opportunity to go to school and live out their dreams.

 “There will be a child who will live because men left the security they enjoyed in their home to come to his,” Stacey wrote in his letter. “He will have the gift of freedom which I have enjoyed for so long myself, and if my life brings the safety of a child who will one day change the world, then I know that it was all worth it.”

Stacey deployed to Afghanistan with the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pendleton, CA

While service men and women are serving our Country and protecting our Freedoms many forget the wives and husbands, children, parents, and sibling that serve that hang on every bit of news from their loved ones and the news also serve with them. We should remember and honor them as well; too many don’t see their loved one service man and women again. That is a high price to pay for freedom.

Many of today’s troops are over worked and just worn out by repeated deployments to combat missions.

Vietnam had its share of combat veterans return as a shell of themselves to a home that mocked and spit on them while calling them Baby Killers. The attitudes at home did not assist a returning combat veteran in decompressing and healing. The attitudes at home did hinder the combat veteran’s recovery from a variety of medical issues including the medical condition of a mental illness such as Depression and PTSD.

Today’s Iraqi, Kuwait, and Afghanistan combat Veterans are not returning home to the same attitudes as the Vietnam combat Veterans did. Today’s Iraqi, Kuwait, and Afghanistan combat Veterans suffer from a number of other things that way heavy on their minds. In Iraqi, Kuwait, and Afghanistan the enemy has more sophisticated tools of destruction, including suicide bombers.  Today’s Combat troops face a number of other issues that others have not. While on active duty our troops are worried that the economy at home combined with their low pay will find their homes foreclosed upon and their families not properly provided for. While on active duty defending our way of life, our way of life is not protecting them or their families. When you add these weights to the multiple deployments that don’t allow our troops enough time to mentally and emotionally heal from the seen and unseen bruises and scars of war you could have a fragile troop on your hands.

I was asked if the VA or Military doctor could help these fragile troops. The short answer is most troops would carry to their grave the baggage they carry before opening up to a VA or Military doctor because of the Stigma that would attach to them if they did. If their medical files contain the medical condition of a mental illness there is a possibility they would not be seen as fit for duty, for promotion and possibly receive a less than Honorable discharge. Those medical and military records are there forever and could negatively affect our troop for the rest of his life.

We train and expect our troops to be lean and mean fighting machines. On the other hand we don’t support them in a way that would allow them to be a lean and mean fighting machines.

They travel miles in the heat.

They risk their lives crossing a border.

They don’t get paid enough wages.

They do jobs that others won’t do or are afraid to do.

They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language.

They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day ~ every day.

I’m not talking about illegal immigrants. I am talking about our troops.

Wouldn’t it be great if we took the $360,000,000,000 (that’s billion) we spend on illegal’s every year, and spend it on our troops!!!

A veteran is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to ‘The United States of America’ for any amount, up to and in including their life.

On this Memorial Day let’s honor the Veterans and their families by providing the support they need and deserve.

Freedom is not Free
